COVID-19 and Our Commitment to Safety

Dear Patient:

Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.

Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We do this to make sure that our infection control procedures are current and adhere to each agencies’ recommendations.

You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:

  • Please come alone. Do not bring your spouse, children, or any other people, unless you need assistance. Only the patient will be permitted into the office.
  • Please call us once you arrive at the parking lot. We will let you know if we are ready for you to come in for your appointment.
A team member will come to greet you, take your temperature scan and review the COVID-19 screening form.
  • If you have a mask, please wear it to your appointment.
  • Please reschedule your appointment if you are feeling ill. Do not come in if you have a fever or cough or have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19.
  • All magazines and pamphlets have been removed. Lobby surfaces and patient restrooms are disinfected every hour. This includes a thorough wipe down of all hard surfaces, such as door handles, doorknobs, tables, chairs and front office counters with hydrogen peroxide disinfectant, a CDC-approved commercial sterilization agent.
  • Stand-alone air purification systems have been placed in each operatory and common space.
  • Extraoral suction systems will be utilized in aerosol producing procedures to remove as much aerosol from air as possible and/or assistants with high evacuation suction.
  • Utilization of Isolights which provides continuous suction to minimize aerosols.
  • Enhanced personal protective equipment including use of N95, KN95, and/or Level 3 surgical mask, face shields, gowns and surgical caps.
  • Installation of sneeze shield in the front office area.

We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at 405-681-6601 or visit our website at www.southpenndental.com.

Thank you for being our patient. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming back our patients, neighbors and friends.

Sincerely,
Dr Kariya, Dr Kohs and Team
